How to start a sex toy business: a procurement plan

To start a sex toy business, define your intended buyer, sales channel and first product range before requesting prices. Then compare quotations against the same brief, review model-specific samples and documents, and agree packaging and order terms in writing. This guide focuses on those procurement decisions; it does not assume a launch budget or promise a profit.

1. Give your first range a clear purpose

Decide whether you are sourcing a branded retail range, replenishing a wholesale assortment or developing a new design. Each route creates different questions about inventory, customization and development costs. A focused shortlist makes those questions easier to resolve than a catalogue-wide request for the lowest price.

Magic Wave's six product categories are vibrators, wands, clitoral stimulators, male masturbators, Kegel balls and silicone dilators. Use the product sourcing overview to identify relevant families. For example, compare the procurement questions for vibrators and wand massagers, then request details for specific models rather than treating a category description as a specification.

2. Write one brief for comparable quotations

Use the same version of this brief for each quotation. A price comparison is only useful when quantities, inclusions and responsibilities match.

3. Compare the complete order scope

Questions to resolve before choosing a quotation
Item Ask the supplier Record before approval
Product Which exact model and variant does this price cover? Model reference and agreed specification version.
Customization Which changes are included, and which need separate development? Itemized scope, charges and approval stages.
Packing and delivery Are retail boxes, labels, cartons and transport included? Included items, exclusions and receiving responsibilities.

4. Make samples a decision point

Ask what the sample represents: an existing model, a proposed customization or the final agreed configuration. Review its appearance, dimensions, components and instructions against your brief. Where powered functions are relevant, ask how the proposed controls and charging arrangement are documented. Log differences and open questions before approving the next stage.

For supplier review, use the factory information as a starting point and request evidence relevant to your chosen product. A supplier introduction cannot replace a model-specific review. Agree which approved sample and written specification will be the reference for the order, and how later changes will be handled.

5. Close the packaging and handover questions

For warehouse delivery, identify who provides barcode data, approves artwork and confirms label placement and carton information. Barcode and Amazon warehouse support have been discussed with Magic Wave; confirm the exact tasks for your order rather than assuming a complete fulfillment service. Keep outstanding items visible when comparing the final quotation.

Magic Wave offers OEM/ODM. Review the customization overview and the OEM versus ODM comparison to define your route. Then prepare a sourcing inquiry with your shortlist, destination, quantity and unresolved questions.
